Southwest Michigan residents have taken advantage of the first weekend of early in-person voting.
Van Buren County clerk Suzie Roehm tell tells us over the weekend they had voters just shy of 1,400 ballots.
“It did take us a little bit by surprise on Saturday, but got everybody through. There was wait time. We’re doing everything that we can, but going very well. And we have made a few adjustments, you know, because we are busier than we anticipated and that’s made a big difference. And, uh, I think things are going really well.”
Since early voting started this past Saturday, numbers have exceeded expectations according to county clerks and the Secretary of State website.
In Van Buren County, there has already been a 20.5% voter turnout, with 1,398 ballots cast.
