There are big plans for the Detroit Zoo.
A $20 million expansion project that includes bringing visitors closer to animals like sharks, goats, and bush dogs is planned over the next two years.
Zoo Director and CEO Hayley Murphy shares some of her favorite parts of the project.
“Seven acres of immersion in nature,” Murphy said. “We’re looking to bring people close up and personal with our animals. So we have goats. You can go right in there and pet those goats and brush them and learn about farm animals. We’ve got an immersive farmers market where you can see the crops and the food that you eat grown.”
The work is expected to wrap up in 2026.
