The Present Pillars Foundation is starting a new support group designed for grieving parents in the community.

Every Wednesday community members can join in on the gatherings discussing their experiences, find support, and begin the healing process with others who understand their loss.

Executive director of Present Pillars James Gunter tells us he hopes this becomes a safe space for parents to have those discussions.

“Actually losing a kid is a life-changing event, man. We’re just really excited to be able to provide community for those parents who have had that experience.”

As a parent who lost a child, group organizer and author Antwaune Fisher says he hopes this group lets parents know they are not alone.

“You’re not wrong in feeling the way you feel or thinking the way that you’re thinking because of what you’re going through. Like, just a lot of understanding, a lot more understanding from our perspective, as well as the people who have to deal with us on a daily basis.”

The group will be open to anyone. Meetings are held every Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. at the Pillar Center at 204 W Main Street.
