Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to move over when they police, fire, tow trucks, or others on the side of the road. That’s after a Southfield fire truck and an MSP cruiser were hit by drunk drivers who didn’t move over.
MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw told us more.
“We are seeing still a large amount of either police cars, fire trucks, tow trucks, construction vehicles, construction workers that are being hit because people don’t really understand what the move over law is,” Shaw said. “Basically what the move over law says, if you see one of those emergency type vehicles with their flashes going, you’re required by law to move over one lane if safe to do so.”
Shaw says you also need to slow down ten miles per hour below the posted speed when passing by.
