A 22-year-old Benton Harbor man is dead and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect after gunshots were fired at an illegal block party in Benton Township early Sunday morning.
According to a statement from Benton Township Police, officers with the Benton Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, and Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were on scene of a large party at the intersection of Broadway and Emery. While attending to other issues, officers heard gunshots in an adjacent field.
Upon arrival at the field, officers located a victim suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Life saving efforts were attempted, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
Investigators say they know there were hundreds of people at the party and believe multiple people witnessed the incident.
