The Lake Michigan College sonography department is offering free 3D and 4D ultrasounds to the community beginning next month.

Using the latest technology, expectant parents can see their baby as LMC Diagnostic medical sonography students use prenatal ultrasound machines. LMC’s sonography program director Beth Zak says this is a great way for students to get experience while bringing some joy to families.

Having lab activities going on with instructors on campus only enhances the students’ education, and this helps prepare them for the clinical environment as well,” Zak said.

To be eligible, the parent must be at least 21 weeks pregnant at the time of the appointment and have already had their first fetal anatomy scan with their OBGYN. Zak says these ultrasounds are for educational purposes only.

It’s a practice that a lot of ultrasound programs do, and we’re just fortunate to have brand new equipment and the ability to offer 4D imaging, just so that they can see their babies and have a nice picture of them for coming in and letting our students scan.”

Anyone can sign up for an appointment, but they are on a first come-first served basis. Zak also told us this will be offered during LMC’s second semester as well.

To request an appointment, you can email the school or call them. You can learn more right here.
