Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety Director Dan McGinnis is restarting his weekly webcast, Chat with the Chief.
McGinnis told city commissioners this week he’s bringing back the session to answer the public’s questions and talk about public safety issues each Thursday, starting this week, at 1 p.m.
“Chad with the Chief comes back with both the chiefs from Benton Harbor and Benton Township,” McGinnis said. “We will be together. So I’m very excited about that.”
McGinnis and Benton Township Police Chief Greg Abrams will discuss ongoing public safety issues in the community.
The announcement from McGinnis followed a call by a local pastor and city commissioners Monday for more to be done to stem youth violence. McGinnis said he just spoke with Abrams about that issue, and he invited anyone to come to the city’s Public Safety Committee meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at Benton Harbor City Hall.
“I welcome to see you all here. I’m going to say this, let’s not wait until it gets down to the absolute worst case scenario. We need people like you, instead of the regular in the corner that just want to shout down and just make noise, but come and actually share with us what your issues are.”
Chat with the Chief can be viewed on the Facebook page of Benton Harbor Public Safety or the city of Benton Harbor’s YouTube page.
