Benton Township residents are being advised of a problem with this month’s utility bills.

Township Supervisor Cathy Yates tells us people have been reporting water, sewer, and trash bills that are a lot higher than they should be. That’s because of a mistake.

We started getting contacted by residents today that the bills they received were much higher than their usual bills,” Yates said. “When it was checked, some people were getting bills from companies when they’re residents, which means they use a lot less. So, we had to get in contact with our third party that actually prints the bills and [ the problem ] happened with them. So, everyone is going to get a new bill. They should throw that one away and wait for the new bill.”

Yates says the problem is entirely with the third party that prints the bills. She doesn’t know specifically what the issue is, but says the new, corrected bills have already been mailed out.

Yates estimates this problem has affected about 5,000 people.

If you’re a Benton Township resident and your utility bill seems high, ignore it and wait for the new one to arrive. Yates apologized to everyone for the inconvenience.
