If you’re going to be hitting the road this weekend for Labor Day, AAA has a few tips for you.

AAA of Michigan’s Adrienne Woodland tells us travel this Labor Day is expected to be up about 9% with the cost to travel down by about 2%. The reason is lower gas prices, which she attributes to low crude oil prices.

Woodland says everyone should be prepared before heading out for a road trip.

Nationwide, AAA is expecting to rescue more than 300,000 stranded motorists during the Labor Day holiday weekend,” Woodland said. “The three most common reasons will be flat tires, dead batteries, and lockouts. So, some of these things can be avoided if you make sure to have your vehicle inspected prior to getting on the roadway. You want to look at things like your tires, your battery life, your engine oil, and other fluids.”

Woodland says the worst days to travel will be this Thursday and Friday. The worst times on the road Thursday will be between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The worst times for Friday will be between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. She recommends leaving at times other than those cited.

Woodland says an extra annoying thing about that will be Labor Day vacationers mixing with normal commuters out on the roads.
