A Bangor Township man is facing several charges after a chase with police this week.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were sent to a home in the 28,000 block of County Road 687 shortly before noon on Wednesday to arrest a parole absconder. As deputies approached the home, they saw 46-year-old Toby Farley run off into the woods.

Farley refused orders from deputies to stop as they chased him, and so deputies used a taser. That didn’t stop the suspect, and police say he tried to grab a taser from a deputy.

The chase continued into calf-deep water, and deputies were finally able to grab Farley after using pepper spray. He was taken into custody and found to have 7.65 grams of meth in his pocket.

Both Farley and the deputy received medical treatment on scene, and Farley was taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
