General Motors is cutting about 1,000 software jobs, including 600 positions at its technical center in Warren.

The move comes as no surprise to Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid, who says creating software for vehicles can be a challenging task.

As they’ve tried to make this transition to software-defined vehicles and a fundamentally different way of developing and, more importantly, deploying software to vehicles, it has been a real challenge for everyone,” Abuelsamid said.

GM says the job cuts were done as part of a periodic review and reflect a need to simplify operations for speed and excellence.
