The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi has announced the election of its new tribal council members.

Matthew Wesaw has been elected tribal chairman, Sam Morseau has been re-elected secretary, Mark Topash has been re-elected member at large, and John P. Warren has been elected elder representative.

Matthew Wesaw succeeds Rebecca Richards, who completed a three-year term as chairwoman, and John P. Warren succeeds Barbara Ann Warren, who completed a three-year term as elder representative.

Now that he’s been selected as tribal chair, Weesaw says he looks forward to working with the tribal council. Wesaw is the longest serving Chair of the Pokagon Band Tribal Council. This marks his fourth election as chairman. The first time was in 2008. He was elected again in 2012, then in 2018, and now again in 2024.

Originally from Bangor, Wesaw was previously a Michigan State Police trooper.
