Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad and St. Joseph Mayor Brook Thomas are teaming up for a presidential debate watch party next month.
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will square off on September 10 at 9 p.m. on ABC. Mayor Muhammad tells us he and Thomas wanted to give everyone a non-partisan chance to see the two candidates tackle the issues in a communal setting.
“What we would like to do is have a excellent show of political civility so we can bring people in the room — Republican, Democrat, independent — and have a great social time while we hear former President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Harris debate the issues of who will be fit to be the next president of the United States,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad says there will be a guest speaker for the debate watch party.
The party will be held at a business in downtown Benton Harbor, although the exact location will only be revealed to those who RSVP. Muhammad says the party is open to everyone, but they would like RSVPs so no one’s surprised by the turnout.
The September 10 debate in Atlanta will be one of two debates between the candidates. There will also be one debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz, the running mates of Trump and Harris, respectively.
