There’s a renewed call for organ donors in Michigan.
More than 2,400 Michiganders are waiting for a life-saving organ donation, and Gift of Life Michigan says the best way to save a life is to join the organ donor registry. The organization held an open house Tuesday in Ann Arbor to give people a chance to learn more about organ, eye, and tissue donation.
Gift of Life Michigan President Dori Dils says just one donor makes all the difference.
“People that are waiting for kidneys that are on chronic dialysis or heart patients or lung patients, liver patients,” Dils said. “We also know that in addition to those 2,400, there are about 16,000 people who go to dialysis three times a week and many of those patients could benefit from a kidney transplant.”
