The village of Paw Paw has been awarded a $137,000 state grant to identify lead water lines.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy on Friday announced $9.7 million in MI Clean Water Plan grants through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for communities to improve their water systems.

Paw Paw is getting $137,500 to locate lead water lines in preparation for their replacement.

Municipalities across Michigan are being required under state law to identify and replace a certain percentage of lead lines each year. The state has been supporting them with MI Clean Water Grants. The grants are supported with funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
