A power line at the intersection of I-94 and East Napier Avenue is down after a driver crashed into a pole, causing it to break.

First responders, AEP, and construction workers were all out at the scene examining the issue Thursday afternoon. Benton Harbor firefighter Cory Kraklau was one of the first responders dispatched to the incident, and told us a truck driver drove into the pole causing the issue around 10:20 a.m.

“The driver wasn’t paying attention and hooked the cable lines and broke the pole.”

Indiana Michigan Power was at the scene waiting on next steps to replace the pole. After talking with I&M representatives, work will need to be done to replace the existing pole, which is slated to begin this afternoon. It is expected that the pole will be fixed by the end of the day.

Power outages are needed for crews to safely make repairs, and will be communicated to customers shortly.
