David Nelson McClelland II, 88, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in Mishawaka, Indiana.

David was born on June 1, 1936 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to the late David Nelson McClelland I and Ethyl (Horner) McClelland Coble.

Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Scrivener) McClelland; second wife, Elnora (McKean) McClelland; son, David N. McClelland III; daughter, Julia A. McClelland; brother, Howard L. McClelland, and his dear four-legged companion, Scooter.

Left to cherish the memory of David are his daughters, Rebecca S. McClelland, Margaret M. Adkins and her husband David and Linda K. McClelland; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren on the way.

Renowned for his passion for classic cars, David could often be found tinkering under the hood of a vintage treasure, a smile on his face as he worked to restore it to its former glory. An emblem of kindness in his community, David dedicated countless hours to beautifying his own yard and selflessly extended his care to the yards of his neighbors, cultivating lifelong friendships along the way.

Beyond the borders of his well-manicured lawns, David’s commitment to service shone brightly through his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, delivering not just nourishment but also smiles and conversation to those in need. The tapestry of his life was richly woven with the love and camaraderie of a wide network of friends spanning Michigan and Pennsylvania, each thread a testament to the lives he touched.

The pinnacle of David’s joy, however, was found in the radiant smiles of his daughters, the laughter of his grandchildren, and the innocent wonder of his great-grandchildren. His unwavering love and wisdom will be a guiding star for them, propelling them forward with the strength of his memory. David’s departure is mourned, yet his spirit, encapsulated in decades of devoted love, lives on.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of David’s rescue companion Scooter, may be made out to your local no kill animal shelter.

In keeping with David’s wishes, a private Memorial Service will be held in Longview, Texas.

David will be laid to rest privately at a later date at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
