Governor Gretchen Whitmer has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for president.

Following President Biden dropping out of the race on Sunday, Democrats appear to be coalescing around Harris, who has been endorsed by Biden. Speaking Monday, Whitmer said she looks forward to serving as a campaign co-chair for Harris.

Today I am fired up to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States,” Whitmer said. “In Vice President Harris, Michigan voters have a presidential candidate we can count on to lower our costs, protect our freedoms, and build an economy that works for working people.”

Whitmer said Harris is a former prosecutor who is ready to take on Donald Trump, who she described as a convicted felon who stokes violence. Whitmer said when Trump was president, he caused Roe v. Wade to be overturned and crashed the economy.

Whitmer had been viewed as a possible alternative to Biden, but the new Kamala Harris for President campaign has picked up momentum since Sunday’s news. Within a day of Biden dropping out, more than $50 million was raised for the Harris campaign.
