IDW PublishingA new book detailing the creation of Pearl Jam‘s 1998 animated “Do the Evolution” video will be released October 6 by IDW Publishing.

Titled Pearl Jam: Art of ‘Do the Evolution’, the 200-page hardcover tome features an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the video, including previously unseen storyboards and designs, provided by co-producer Joe Pearson. 

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, who co-directed “Do the Evolution” alongside Batman: The Animated Series director Kevin Altieri, provides an introduction for the book.

“Being able to produce this seminal animated video at my studio for Pearl Jam and to work with super talents like Eddie Vedder, Todd McFarlane, and Kevin Altieri was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Pearson. “And then to see the positive and continuing worldwide reaction of millions of fans to our group effort was the icing on this dense cake of edgy music and animation.”

Aside from its signature animation and political message, the “Do the Evolution” video was also significant for being the first Pearl Jam video produced since 1992.
