The show won't go on: Queen + Adam Lambert's 2020 tour of UK & Europe postponed until next year

Neal Preston/© Queen Productions Ltd.Queen and current lead singer Adam Lambert are among the latest music artists to announce the postponement of their 2020 tour plans because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 27-date U.K. and European leg of the rockers’ The Rhapsody Tour, which was to have kicked off on May 24 in Bologna, Italy, has been pushed back to next year with the new concerts taking place on “matching or similar dates.”

The trek now will get underway in Bologna on May 23, 2021, and is plotted out through a July 6-7 engagement in Madrid. The tour also includes 10 rescheduled concert that Queen + Adam Lambert had lined up at London’s O2 Arena, as well as two-night stands in Amsterdam; Manchester, U.K.; Birmingham, U.K.; and Copenhagen, Denmark.

All tickets purchased for the 2020 concerts will remain valid for the rescheduled dates.

“We’re very sad to announce the postponement of our summer shows in Europe, although in the present crazy state of the world, it cannot be a surprise to our fans,” guitarist Brian May says in a statement. “Of course we would have gone ahead with the dates had it been humanly possible. The good news is that we do NOW have a PLAN B ready to roll.”

Adds drummer Roger Taylor, “We’re all in this together. Devastating! Boringly frustrating! Scary and upsetting! But…pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down…start all over again!!! Be well…take care…coming right back at you as soon as we possibly can!!!”

Meanwhile, May has continued posting “MicroConcert” performance videos on his YouTube channel that he’s been recording while sheltering at home because of the coronavirus. The latest clip features Brian singing and playing the classic 1965 Beatles tune “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away.”
