Ramblin' Records
A Marshall Tucker Band concert album capturing a New Year’s Eve 1978 performance that the Southern rockers gave in New Orleans will be released as limited-edition two-LP vinyl and two-CD sets for the 2019 Record Store Day Black Friday event on November 29 before getting a wide release in late January 2020.
New Year’s in New Orleans: Roll Up ’78 and Light Up ’79! features The Marshall Tucker’s classic original lineup performing at the famed Big Easy venue The Warehouse, delivering a set that included such classics as “Fire on the Mountain,” “Heard It in a Love Song” and “Can’t You See.”
The show was broadcast live over more than 150 radio stations across the U.S., but has never been available commercially.
The recording was taken from the original 24-track tapes. Paul Hornsby, who produced The Marshall Tucker Band’s first six studio albums and also played keyboards on the group’s early records, mixed the live collection.
The New Year’s in New Orleans package includes original photos of the band performing at The Warehouse that were taken by the venue’s official photographer, Sidney Smith.
The CD version of the album has two more songs than the vinyl edition.
Meanwhile, the current incarnation of The Marshall Tucker Band, led by original lead singer Paul Gray, continues its 2019 tour with a concert on Friday, November 22, in St. Louis. You can check out all of the group’s confirmed shows at MarshallTuckerBand.com.
