Courtesy of Sony Music EntertainmentLast week, AC/DC began posting a series of rare videos from the group’s 2007 Plug Me In DVD box set on its YouTube channel to mark the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Australian rockers’ breakthrough 1979 album, Highway to Hell. The second installment of the series can now be viewed, a performance of the 1976 tune “The Jack” from a July 13, 1979, appearance on the Dutch TV show Countdown.

The first video, which was posted on YouTube last week, was a rendition of Highway to Hell‘s title track from the same episode of Countdown. Additional clips related to the anniversary will be posted on the YouTube channel throughout July.

Also as part of the Highway to Hell celebration, AC/DC has posted a video on its Facebook page showing late frontman Bon Scott‘s handwritten lyrics to the song “Girls Got Rhythm” appearing on a blank page as the tune plays in the background. In addition, the band has introduced a special line of Highway to Hell 40th anniversary merchandise that’s available at its online store.

Highway to Hell was released 40 years ago this Saturday, July 27. The album was AC/DC’s fifth studio effort to be released internationally, and its first to crack the top 100 of the Billboard 200 chart, eventually peaking at #17 on the tally. The record has gone on to sell more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Among the standout songs on the album were “Girls Got Rhythm,” “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It),” “Night Prowler” and, of course, the title track.

Sadly, Highway to Hell was the last AC/DC studio album to feature Scott, who died February 19, 1980, from alcohol poisoning at age 33.
