Led Zeppelin bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones will team up with Sonic Youth guitarist/singer Thurston Moore and veteran improvisational drummer Steve Noble for a special one-off performance on March 28 at the famous London venue The 100 Club.
The concert will raise money for Resonance FM, a free-form radio station based in London. Tickets are available now at TicketTailor.com.
Jones previously collaborated with Sonic Youth in 2009, when they composed a piece called “Nearly Ninety” with mixed-media sound composer Takehisa Kosugi that they performed at an event celebrating avant-garde choreographer Merce Cunningham‘s 90th birthday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York.
In other Led Zeppelin-related news, singer Robert Plant reportedly performed for the first time late last month with a new group called Saving Grace at the SpArC Theatre in Bishop’s Castle, U.K. According to a post on the theater’s Facebook page, Saving Grace featured Plant on vocals and harmonica, Suzi Dian on vocals, Tony Kelsey and Matt Worley on multiple string instruments and Oli Jefferson on percussion. The group’s style is described as “music inspired by the dreamscape of the Welsh Marches.”
Plant currently has just one U.S. gig on his schedule, an appearance at the star-studded third annual Love Rock NYC benefit concert on March 7 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The show, which is sold out, raises money for the God’s Love We Deliver charity, which provides nutritious meals to seriously ill people in the New York area.
Meanwhile, Robert and his current main band, The Sensational Space Shifters also will mount a tour of Scandinavia this June and July.
